Solar 4R Schools Application Process
Types of Applications
BEF works with its partners to fund two types of projects through Solar 4R Schools:
- Renewable Classroom – includes educational materials and teacher training and support
- Renewable School – includes educational materials, teacher training and support plus a solar-electric installation
Deadlines and Notifications
BEF evaluates applications and makes funding decisions quarterly, so you should expect to hear from us as follows:
- Q1: Applications received between 12/16 and 3/15. Notification on or before 6/30
- Q2: Applications received between 3/16 and 6/15. Notification on or before 9/29
- Q3: Applications received between 6/16 and 9/15. Notification on or before 12/28
- Q4: Applications received between 9/16 and 12/15. Notification on or before 3/31
Special Deadlines
BEF works with a variety of partners to fund Solar 4R Schools. Some funding partners have specific deadlines. If you are in the service area of one of our utility funding partners, please pay attention to their funding cycle calendars and note that some of them choose projects only once per year.
Clark Public Utilities
Clark Public Utilities and its Green Lights program is currently accepting applications via registered District Solar Champions for solar photovoltaic public demonstration project grants from schools within its service territory. The deadline for this application is October 15, 2010. For more information on how to apply and for a list of the registered District Solar Champions, please download the Green Lights Application Flyer.

Snohomish County PUD
Snohomish County PUD (PUD) and its Planet Power program are currently not accepting applications for solar photovoltaic public demonstration project grants from non-profit and public organizations within their service territory. Snohomish County PUD requests grant applications each April.

Cowlitz PUD
Grants are awarded once per year. To be considered, applications must be submitted by 5/21. Applicants will be notified in June of the same year.
Idaho Power Company
Grants are awarded once per year. To be considered, applications must be submitted by 3/1. Applicants will be notified in April of the same year.

What is Solar 4R Schools?
Developed and managed by Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), Solar 4R Schools provides schools nationwide with hands-on
teaching tools such as science kits, lesson plans and photovoltaic solar arrays so students can learn about solar, wind and other renewable energy technologies.
