About the School:

Completed in 2018, Tucker Maxon School's 44.8 kW roof top solar photovoltaic system generates an estimated 48,000 kWh of clean, renewable energy each year. See live production data for real time generation. A total of 128 solar panels provide the equivalent to powering about 4 average US homes per year, and is expected to offset half of the school’s electricity. Tucker Maxon School is committed to sustainability, renewable energy, and conservation education for our students, staff, and community.

This project was made possible with funding support from the PGE Renewable Development Fund. In 2017, Tucker Maxon was the recipient of a 44.8 kW roof top solar photovoltaic system. To accompany the solar array, staff received clean energy curricula, training, and science kit materials. Tucker Maxon School’s mission is to teach deaf and hearing children to listen, talk, learn, and achieve excellence together. Tucker Maxon serves children birth to age 5 in a nurturing environment that includes small classrooms, a tree fort, and free-range chickens. On August 28, 2018 the entire Tucker Maxon School staff including educators, the development team, admin, and support staff participated in a full day workshop that explored energy transfer and transformation and the engineering design process. There was emphasis placed on engaging hands on activities and modular science kit materials to support inclusive classroom best practices. Highlights for the day were suggestions for relevant phenomenon that included exploring batteries and hearing aids, the implementation of a Green Team, and the formal integration of a science instructor that can support all grade bands. Tucker Maxon staff are committed to educating their students and community about sustainability and conservation efforts and are excited to use this experience as the start of a paradigm shift in their school community.
