Arconic Foundation supported STEM teacher professional development for educators in the region surrounding Arconic facilities in Chandler, Arizona in Spring 2016. The Solar 4R Schools team had an opportunity to work intimately with the East Valley Chapter of the organization Engineering for Kids. Educators spent time designing the heating compartment for a solar oven (even overheating leftover pizza) and enjoyed tremendously the time spent designing and redesigning solar cars to work in the bright Arizona sun! East Valley Engineering for Kids expects to reach 150+ students over the course... Read full project narrative >>

The San Juan Islands Conservation District is partnered with Orcas Power and Light Cooperative (OPALCO) and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to install solar electric systems at the public schools on Lopez, Orcas, San Juan, and Shaw Islands in 2015. This exciting community solar project will deliver renewable energy to our public schools, reducing their electricity bills, and provide renewable energy education for our students. Participants receive a payback through production incentives. Shaw Island School is generating renewable solar energy through the community solar... Read full project narrative >>

In 2016, Community School was selected by Idaho Power to become the next Renewable School in Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s (BEF) Solar 4R Schools program. Thanks to generous support and funding from the utility’s Green Power Program participants and project match provided by Community School, the school installed a 15 kW PV system on the school which is estimated to cover seven to eight percent of the campus’ electric use. Educators at the school also received a customized renewable energy teacher training from Solar 4R Schools in Fall 2015, complete with hands-on science kit... Read full project narrative >>

Funded by participating customers, Clark Public Utilities built this Community Solar project in 2015. Community Solar is a different model for solar energy. Instead of putting a solar array on an individual home, community projects bring together a group of participants to build a larger array. More than 700 utility customers own a piece of this solar array and receive state incentives and utility generation credits based on the amount of solar power produced. These five separately metered systems generate enough solar energy to power about 30 homes each year. View each project's real... Read full project narrative >>
