The 1.1-kilowatt solar-electric system was installed in November 2008 on the new middle school building at the Denver School of Science and Technology (DSST). DSST's Middle School Program has a college preparatory focus, with an emphasis on developing core liberal arts skills in reading, writing, mathematics and science. DSST will use the solar-electric system and Solar 4R Schools educational materials as a teaching tool for both middle and high school students. The program is designed to teach students and communities about sustainable energy practices.
