Today, Capital High School generated 3 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From
fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 4 lbs of
CO2 into the atmosphere.
This could power:
- An electric toothbrush for 11 weeks
- A 42" plasma-screen television for 6 hours
- A typical video game system for 6 days
The largest of five Idaho schools awarded a Solar 4R Schools installation in 2007, Capital High School has more than 1,900 students, thereby providing an exceptional opportunity to expose a broad audience to solar power technology. Although energy generated by the system offsets a portion of the school’s electricity bills, its primary focus is education. Solar 4R School's renewable energy curriculum is included in the school’s environmental science classes. Teachers help students use the system’s data to enhance their understanding of solar power generation.
