Today, Crest Center generated 3 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 5 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere.

This could power:

  • An electric toothbrush for 13 weeks
  • A 42" plasma-screen television for 6 hours
  • A typical video game system for 6 days

The 1.1 kW solar-electric system at the Center for Research in Environmental Sciences & Technologies (CREST) Center is the fourth of BEF's Solar 4R Schools installations and is designed as an educational tool to display the benefits of renewable energy. In addition to the solar panels, the Solar 4R Schools program provided CREST with data monitoring and meteorological sensors that are used by all students in the district. CREST is an environmental education center that engages students in hands-on, minds-on science, field research and community service.
