Today, Da Vinci Middle School - Tracker generated 2 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From
fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 3 lbs of
CO2 into the atmosphere.
This could power:
- An electric toothbrush for 7 weeks
- A 42" plasma-screen television for 4 hours
- A typical video game system for 4 days
Da Vinci Arts Middle School is the 11th project in BEF’s Solar 4R Schools program and complements da Vinci’s innovative environmental curriculum. By incorporating the 1.1 kW photovoltaic installation into their “living garden,” a complex system of plants and microorganisms that clean the school’s rain runoff and kitchen wastewater, da Vinci students are able to demonstrate several sustainable environmental practices, simultaneously. The students plan to utilize this unique facility in their efforts to educate the local community about environmentally sound energy and wastewater treatment practices.
