Today, Hillsboro Civic Center generated 8 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 11 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere.

This could power:

  • An electric toothbrush for 31 weeks
  • A 42" plasma-screen television for 16 hours
  • A typical video game system for 2 weeks

The 3.15-kW PV system at the Hillsboro Civic Center is one of many sustainable features of the building. The City hopes to be awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certificate, which would also make the structure the first “LEED Gold” city hall in the country. In addition to serving as office space, the complex will serve as an educational tool by demonstrating the benefits of environmentally friendly design and renewable power. An interactive kiosk in the building's lobby will also display the real-time data generated by the PV installation.
