Today, Lake Metroparks, Farmpark generated 10 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 14 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere.

This could power:

  • An electric toothbrush for 38 weeks
  • A 42" plasma-screen television for 19 hours
  • A typical video game system for 2 weeks

Visitors will learn about the potentials and characteristics of solar power through controlling an interactive photovoltaic array tracker. As they attempt to optimize the array's relationship to the Sun, a pond fountain will change height as a direct result of the power produced.

Visitors will also see real time data displays and learn from system graphics and diagrams. The overall system will also display data continuously to the web to allow those interested in the systems performance to see data remotely. The installation will also act as an attraction for the facility's other renewable energy installations and as a statement of Farmpark's overall commitment to sustainability.
