Today, Marshall Middle School generated 2 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From
fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 3 lbs of
CO2 into the atmosphere.
This could power:
- An electric toothbrush for 7 weeks
- A 42" plasma-screen television for 4 hours
- A typical video game system for 4 days
Thanks to a grant from Puget Sound Energy, students at Olympia's Marshall Middle School can now study renewable energy first hand.
The 1.1 kW solar photovoltaic demonstration project, dedicated on October 23, 2008, enables students to explore how clean, renewable energy systems work through direct, daily experience at their school. Environmental awareness is not new to students at Marshall. They already have a robust recycling and composting program, and participate in PSE's Powerful Choices for the Environment program.
