Today, Northwest Youth Corps generated 11.0 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 15.4 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere.

This could power:

  • An electric toothbrush for 43 weeks
  • A 42" plasma-screen television for 22 hours
  • A typical video game system for 3 weeks

Northwest Youth Corps received a Solar 4R Schools grant to install a 1.02 kW solar array, informational kiosk and educational materials. A later EWeb grant increased the size to 40.48 kW.

The pole-mounted array is located in a highly-visible location at the front of the building and the power it provides will help to support entrepreneurial activities at the two-acre organic educational farm operated by students on-site.

Northwest Youth Corps is a youth development and outdoor education organization that has provided opportunities to more than 10,000 young people since its establishment in 1984.
