Flathead Electric SUN Community Solar

Live Solar Electric Generation

Flathead Electric Co-Op

Flathead Electric Co-op’s Solar Utility Network, or “SUN” project is Montana’s first Community Solar project! Completed in 2015, it is located on the North side of Kalispell next to FEC’s Stillwater Substation and is comprised of 356 Solar World Sunmodule Plus 285 watt panels. We are very proud that we utilized MT Solar’s multi-pole racking system, a made in Montana product. SMA Tripower inverters round out the system along with an SMA Cluster controller and Locus PV system monitoring. The entire system was professionally installed on time by Jordan Solar, another Montana company.

Flathead Electric Cooperative is very proud of the fact that we installed Montana’s first Community Solar project. This continues to demonstrate our willingness to develop local renewable energy projects and follows on the heels of our Landfill Gas Energy Plant, the Stoltze Lumber Biomass Generator, and the Whitefish Hydropower facility. In addition we have a very member friendly net metering policy and allow net metered systems up to 20kW in size.
